At the end of the tournament, the projected cut was a two-round total of 1-over par.
LPGA veteran So Yeon Yoo, who was playing on the domestic stage for the first time, was in a terrible shooting slump. After being tied for fourth at 3-under par on the first day, Yoo had six bogeys by the 14th hole, dropping her total to 3-over par. She needed to shave two strokes off her score over the next four holes to avoid missing the cut. After parring the 15th, Yoo needed two birdies in her final three holes. Playing alongside Yoo was Soo-yeon Kim, who also had a close call with the cut. After starting with a bogey on the first hole, Kim birdied the third, but a bogey on the sixth dropped her to 1-over par. The steady rain could have been a distraction and she could have easily missed the cut. Furthermore, Kim had made the cut in 32 events since missing the season opener last year. Of course, she had made the cut in more events than any other player in the KLPGA. Kim didn’t make a birdie after the seventh hole, but she overcame a bogey to finish with a 1-over-par 145 after 12 consecutive holes of par. It was her 33rd consecutive missed cut.
Unlike Yoo and Kim, another top-ranked player tasted the pain of missing the cut for the first time this year. Park Min-ji, who has won six tournaments in the last two years, and Kim Min-byul, who is the top-ranked rookie this year.
Park Min-ji, who opened with a 75 on the first day, dropped a shot in the second round and missed the cut with a total of 4-over par 148 (tied for 89th). It was his first missed cut in just his seventh start of the year.
Rookie No. 1 Min Byul Kim, who had never missed the cut in eight tournaments, was unable to make up for her opening round of 76 with a 4-over total.
Rookie long hitter Bang Shin-sil remained tied for the lead after the first day and will be looking for her first win in the Champions Group for the third time this year. Shaving three strokes off her score on the day, Bang totaled a 7-under par 137 to share the lead with Kim Hee-ji and Park Ji-young.
