SSG Landers right-hander Seo Sang-jun pitched well at the Futures All-Star Game, signaling his future success.
The Northern All-Star (Hanwha Eagles, LG Twins, Goyang Heroes, SSG, Doosan Bears) took the mound in the top of the ninth inning with his team leading 9-7 against the Southern All-Stars (Sangsung, NC Dinos, Samsung Lions, Lotte Giants, KT Wiz, KIA Tigers) at Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan on Thursday.
Seo got off to a shaky start when he was hit by a single to right by the first batter, Cho Min-sung. But he didn’t falter. He got Chun Sung-ho to ground out to shortstop to get out of the jam, then induced pinch-hitter Lee Jun-hee to fly out to center field to end the game without allowing a run. The save earned him the postgame honor of Pitcher of the Game.
Seo, a product of East Jungang High School, Yaro Middle School, and English High School, was selected by the SK Wyverns (now SSG) in the seventh round (66th overall) of the 2019 rookie draft.스포츠토토
After an unspectacular 2019-2021 season, he returned from military service to become a staple of the SSG Futures team this year. In 18 appearances, he has a record of 2 wins, 3 saves, and 1 hold with a 2.00 ERA.
SSG’s current bullpen is solid (3.31 bullpen ERA), but it does have the disadvantage of being a bit older. This could prove to be a weakness in the second half of the season, when stamina becomes more important. If Seo continues to perform as well as he did today and makes it to the first team, it could be a big boost for the SSG.
After making a name for himself in the Futures All-Star Game, many baseball fans are eager to see if he can break into the first team sooner rather than later.
