What a scoring efficiency.
Celtic defeated Aberdeen 5-0 in the 38th round of the 2022-23 Scottish Premiership at Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland, on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET안전놀이터. The reigning champions finished the league with 99 points (32 wins, 3 draws, 3 losses).
Oh came off the bench first. Celtic took the lead in the first half thanks to a multi-goal performance from Kyogo Furuhashi. He scored in the 27th minute with a sharp finish after a folding move inside the penalty box. Then, in the 32nd minute, after Callum McGregor’s mid-range shot deflected off the keeper’s hands, Furuhashi rushed in and slotted home.
Five minutes into the second half, Celtic made a substitution. They took Furuhashi off and brought on Oh Hyun-gyu, the “Oh effect”. In the 37th minute, with the score at 3-0, Jota broke down the left flank and sent in a cross that Oh rattled the net with a thunderous header. Then, in the 45th minute, Jota’s free kick hit the crossbar and Oh didn’t miss, slotting it in off a defender’s foot.
With the goal, Oh increased his tally to seven on the season. With six goals in 16 league games, one goal in three Scottish Cup games, and one goalless game in the Scottish League Cup, that’s seven goals in 20 games. What stands out is his goals per game time. According to soccer statistics site TransferMarkt, Oh has played 561 minutes and produced seven goals. That’s one goal every 80 minutes.
Scottish ’67hailhail’ commented, “Oh has scored seven goals in just 561 minutes of play, which is one goal every 80 minutes. His scoring efficiency is excellent and bodes well for his first full season next season. Oh looks to have a great sophomore year next season. Coach Enzi Postecoglu will have to give him more chances in 2023-24. It’s really positive and he’s improved a lot.”
The Celtic star added: “He’s a player who’s going to be big and he’s very deadly. His goal-to-participation ratio makes you forget about the Greek giant who left Celtic” and gave him a seasonal rating of 8.
His performance against Aberdeen was also highly rated. Football statistics site FútbolScore.com gave him an 8.12 rating. This was the third-highest overall rating for the game, behind Karl Staafeldt (8.43) and O’Reilly (8.34). Oh showed beautiful decision-making, converting two of his four shots on goal.
Oh’s season isn’t over yet. On April 4, he will face Inverness in the Scottish Cup final. If he wins, he will complete the ‘Domestic Treble’.
