Korea University swept rival Yonsei University to solidify its dominance in the University League.
Korea University won its 2023 KUSF University Basketball U-League game against Yonsei University 62-45 at Hwajung Gymnasium on Friday. With 10 wins안전놀이터, KU remained undefeated and took sole possession of the league lead.
Captain Park Mubin led the way with 16 points, including four three-pointers, while freshmen Moon Yoo-hyun, Lee Dong-geun, and Yoon Ki-chan were also in fine form and contributed to the victory.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair. KU took the lead on a free throw by Yang Jun, but couldn’t control Lee Min-seo’s quick feet and allowed Ahn to score from mid-range. A three-pointer by Yoon Ki-chan just before the end of the first quarter gave KU a 14-12 lead.
After warming up, KU showed its true colors in the second quarter. Captain Park Mubin spearheaded the offense with eight points in the second quarter, while Moon Jung-hyun also made his presence felt with five points. Holding Yonsei to just four points after the 1:56 mark of the second quarter, KU widened the gap to 29-16.
In the second half, KU took control. Moon Yoo-hyun, Park Mubin, Kim Tae-hoon, and Lee Dong-geun hit three-pointers in quick succession. KU’s focus also shone on defense. Yoon Ki-chan, Moon Yoo-hyun, and Kim Tae-hoon relentlessly harassed opposing ace Yoo Yoo-sang, who missed all but two free throws. KU headed into the fourth quarter with a 19-point lead, 46-27.
Entering the fourth quarter with a stable lead, KU tightened the reins on offense. Lee Dong-geun scored a putback and a three-pointer, while Park Mubin and Yoon Ki-chan also added points. With 6:44 left in the game, Park’s wedge three-pointer put KU up 60-30, a double-digit lead that effectively sealed the game.
Meanwhile, Yonsei seemed to take the initiative in the early stages of the game by pressuring its opponent hard, but was hampered by an injury to Yoo Yoo-sang and the absence of Lee Ju-young, Lee Chae-hyung, and Kim Bo-bae.
